He is the son of great actor, politician, founder of "Telugu desham party" and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, his mother is Basava Tarakam. He is spouse of Lakshmi and Shalini. He is father of three sons Janaki Ram, Kalyan Ram(actor) and NTR jr(actor).

Harikrishna started his film career at childhood with the movie Sri Krishnavatharam in the year 1964 directed by Kamalakara Kameshwararao. Then he acted in "Talla Pellama", "TathammaKala", "Daana Veera Sura Karna", "Siva Rama Raju" and "Seethayya".
