Rahul Dravid is a former Indian cricketer and captained the national Test and One Day International teams. He was born on January 11, 1973 at Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India, his actual name is 'Rahul Sharad Dravid'. Rahul parents are 'Sharad Dravid' and 'Pushpa', he has a younger brother 'Vijay'. He is married 'Vijeta Pendharkar' on 4 May 2003, this pair having two sons 'Samit Dravid' and 'Anvay Dravid'. Rahul completed his schooling at St. Joseph's Boys High School. He has also received the bachelor degree with majoring in commerce from the St. Joseph's College of Commerce.

Early career

Rahul was born in a Maharashtrian Deshastha Brahmin family in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. His family later moved to Bangalore, Karnataka. He started playing cricket at the age of 12. He represented Karnataka at the under-15, the under-17 and the under-19 levels. Dravid scored a century for his school team. He also played as wicket-keeper.

He made his 'Ranji Trophy' debut in February 1991, still he is attending college. Playing alongside future Indian teammates Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath against Maharashtra in Pune, he scored 82 runs in the match.

Cricket Career

Rahul made his international debut on 3 April 1996 in an ODI against Sri Lanka in the Singer Cup held in Singapore. He was not particularly impressive with the bat scoring just three runs before being dismissed by Muttiah Muralitharan but took two catches in the match.

He has obtained the highest rankings from ICCI in his career for two times. In One Day International match, he got the fifth place that published at 27th August of 2007. And also he has secured the Number One place for the test matches in 2nd January of 1999.

In the year 2002, when Dravid started to establish himself as India's premier Test batsmen. Achieving this at the time with Sachin Tendulkar, the greatest cricketer India had ever produced, being in team and being recognized for it was no simple task. He did this by raking up four consecutive centuries against England and West Indies. He later went onto scoring three of his five double centuries in Test cricket in the 2003-2004 season. This too was achieved against the top teams in world at the time which were Australia, New Zealand and Pakistan.

World Cup Matches

In test cricket series, he is one among the three batsmen who scored centuries in both innings. He has concluded ad the “Man of the Series” in the Cricket World cup that held at 1999 for gathering 461 runs. He is the captain of our Indian cricket team for the World Cup Cricket, which held at 2007

World Cup in 2003, Dravid was the vice-captain of the team, served his team by picking up the wicket-keeping gloves to accommodate an extra batsmen in the playing. This move was highly praised by everyone as it allowed India to reach the final. After appointing him as the captain of the Indian cricket team, Dravid led India to some of famous victories as well as historical ones. The included winning against England and West Indies in their home ground for the first time in a generation.

Retirement

Rahul announced his retirement from Test and domestic cricket on 9 March 2012, after the 2011–12 tour of Australia, but he said he would captain the Rajasthan Royals in the 2012 Indian Premier League. He was the second-highest run scorer and had taken the highest number of catches in Test cricket at the time of his retirement.
