Dhirubhai Ambani is founder of Reliance Industries in Bombay 1966. He was born on Dec 28, 1932 at Chorvad, Junagadh State. Dhirubhai parents are Hirachand Gordhanbhai Ambani and Jamnaben. Dhirubhai married Kokilaben Ambani. The pair having two sons and two daughters, named Mukesh Ambani, Anil Ambani and Nita Kothari, Deepti Salgaonkar.

Early Career

Dhirubhai was born into a Gujarati family. His father Hirachand Gordhandhas Ambani was a village school teacher. Dhirubhai is the second son of Hirachand. he was elected as the General Secretary of the Junagarh State Union. He organized a rally on Indian Independence Day. he became a part of the Praja Mandal Movement that organized rallies to bring about constitutional reforms in the state.

He went to Aden, and he took up a clerical job at A. Besse & Co, the largest transcontinental trading firm east of Suez. He learn the tricks of the trade.

Business Career

Dhirubhai Ambani returned to India and started Majin in partnership with Champaklal Damani. The first office of the Reliance Commercial Corporation is at the Narsinatha Street in Masjid Bunder. It was a 350 sq ft room with a telephone, one table and three chairs. In 1965, Champaklal Damani and Dhirubhai Ambani stoped their partnership and Ambani started on his own.In 1972, Reliance became huge thriving, a stark contrast to its starting days. Three years later, it received a nod of excellence from the World Bank

The Friends of Reliance started to buy the short sold shares of Reliance Industries on the Bombay Stock Exchange. In 1982 Ambani began the process of backward integration, setting up a plant to manufacture polyester filament yarn. He subsequently diversified into chemicals, petrochemicals, plastics, power. The final phase of Reliances diversification occurred in the 1990s when the company turned aggressively towards petrochemicals and telecommunications.

Death

Dhirubhai Ambani was admitted in the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on 24 June 2002 after he suffered a major stroke. It was his second stroke, the first one had occurred in February 1986 and had paralyzed his right hand. He was in a coma for more than a week and a number of doctors were consulted. He died on 6 July 2002.
