Vijayashanti is an south India film actress and a politician. She is born on 24 June 1966 at Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Vijayashanthi parents Varalaxmi and Srinivas Prasad. She is spouse of M. V. Srinivas Prasad of Gudivada, Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh. The pair having two children. She completed her 10th class at Holy Angels High School Chennai. Vijayashanthi acted 186 movies in seven languages including Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.

Acting entry

Vijayashanthi started acting career in 1980 as the leading lady in the Tamil film Kallukkul Eeram directed by P. S. Nivas. Later she debuted in Telugu with the movie Kilaadi Krishnudu , pairing opposite Krishna. Vijayashanti first break as a performer came in the 1983 Telugu film Neti Bharatam directed by T. Krishna.

Film Career

She is credited as The Lady Superstar of South Indian cinema. She plays glamours in Challenge, Desodhdhaarakudu, Pasivadi Pranam, Muddula Krishnaiah, Agni Parvatam, Yamudiki Mogudu, Athaku Yamudu Ammayiki Mogudu, Muddula Mavayya, Gang Leader. In 1992 Mondi Mogudu Penki Pellam was a great success. She played a role of a bold lady speaking Telangana slang in the role. Most of her films with Chiranjeevi (19 films) and Balakrishna (16 films) were great hits and mostly called as Hit Pair. She has acted with Tamil superstar Rajinikanth in the film Mannan. She also acted with yester year heroes like superstar Krishna, Shoban Babu.

Political Life

In 1999 Vijayashanti joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. During the 1999 general election she was named BJP s contestant from the Cuddapah Lok Sabha seat against Sonia Gandhi of Congress. She started her own political party, Talli Telangana, which merged into Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) due to lack of strength and support, in January 2009.

In the 2009 general election, she won Medak seat. In June 2009, she resigned from the post of secretary general of TRS, expressing solidarity with the resignation of Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao. In 2011, she submitted her resignation as an MP. The resignation was later rejected by the speaker of the house, as they were not in the proper format. Later she was actively participating in Politics for separate Telangana state. Vijayashanti joined Indian National Congress party on FEB 2014 after split with TRS chief KCR and contesting to Loksabha elctions 2014 on congress ticket.
